FROM THE LAY DIRECTOR "Keeping God A Priority In The Summer Season"

Updated: Jul 23, 2024

Most of us look forward to the summer season and thank God, our far too short Michigan summer is almost here. We long for the summer for a variety of reasons. For some, it is the longer days filled with sunshine for the outdoors, vacations, and moments of relaxation. I love the diversity of the seasons in Michigan as each season provides unique activities to enjoy.

As we continue in our 4th day, it's crucial to remember to keep God as our priority throughout the summer season. In the hustle and bustle of summer activities, it can be easy to let our spiritual disciplines slide. As we know, our study is important in keeping us on track in growing in our faith walk. Psalm 1:2-3 reminds us of the blessings that come from delighting in God's Word: "But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers." By maintaining our regular practices of prayer, Bible study, and worship, we ensure that we stay connected to our source of strength and guidance.

Summer offers many wonderful opportunities for rest and recreation, but we must be intentional about carving out time for God amidst our activities. Whether we're traveling, spending time with family, or simply enjoying the beauty of God's creation, we can find moments to draw near to Him. Being out in nature is an awesome way to observe the beauty of the world that God created. Many times, I am in awe of the sights, sounds, and smells of the great outdoors.

Summer also provides opportunities to be a witness for Christ and demonstrate our apostolic action. Our interactions with friends and family, or even strangers can reflect the love and grace of God. Whether it's through acts of service, sharing our faith, or simply offering a listening ear, we can be the light of Christ within our environments. Keep watch for those opportunities that God is lining up for you to share His message and be bold to act on it when possible. I hope you all enjoy the all-too-short summer season and work to be intentional to keep God at the center of all you do.

GLY&SDI,

Jeff Walk
